As for the sketches, the first one posted is an idea for page layout. The second one is ideas for the title design.  The third design is what I worked up as a title design from my sketches.

Homework

For homework we went to www.cssbasics.com and read chapters 1-4.  From reading this I learned some basics about css including syntax, classes, and Id's.  Using a selector, an element can be styled.  A selector in css can be used multiple times and different selectors can be combined so that they are repeated on a page.  A class selector in css uses a period while a Id selector uses a #sign.  An Id selector is more powerful  then a class selector and if both are used, the Id selector will override the class selector.

Final designs

The first design I put together in Indesign, Due to many technical difficulties I ended up having to print through Illustrator. I also realized that my image ended up being too big so I had to cut it down a little bit.

Integration

I started out by adding two large fish to the design. I then added the first masthead. After I decided to change the masthead I took it away and added little fish in the background of the design.

photo

The following is the scanned photo that I used for my project
The next two photos were taken by me and integrated into the design.

focus

The focus of the magazine is on diving and the target audience is people who enjoy recreational diving. The sell line of the magazine will be about 100 of the best places to dive.

This is the updated version of the masthead. I added some seaweed to the blue box in order to break up the bottom line.  I also changed some of the colors to make them a little less blue green and a little more blue.

magazine title(masthead)

I decided on the top photo for my title design.  I started out with the bottom photo, but a lot of people thought that the rigidness of the waves reminded them of roofing shingles more then they did waves.  In order to get a more organic feel I used my paintbrush tool.

Typefaces

These are some of the typefaces that I looked at for the magazine.  I liked the second one and the seventh one the best but I'm not entirely satisfied so I'm going to keep looking for other options.

sketches

For my sketches I went with the idea of a diver and the title "Total Submersion" as the title. It is designed to be a magazine for recreational diving.  I like the middle and bottom layout the best.  I like the way I have the title of the magazine laid out in both of them. I know that I will go with the image of a diver and  something else (maybe a sea turtle or a school of fish) in the background.

Mind Map 2

I probably should have posted this before posting the Mood Board.  I started out with the idea of the outdoors and different activities associated with being outside.  I had ideas with flying, climbing, caving, boating, diving, and many more.

Mood Board 2

This is my mood board for the magazine project.  I went off of the idea of outdoor activities.  I more specifically liked the idea of water sports and water based activities such as, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, white water rafting, surfing, fishing, diving, and cave diving.

photoshop/indesign project

For this project, we were supposed to use a combination of photoshop, illustrator, and indesign.  Photoshop was used to manipulate the photos and change the colors.  Illustrator was used to do vector line drawings.  Indesign is used to put all of the cells together and to include the photos.

sketchup

I started out watching the tutorials and creating simple shapes using basic tools such as the line tool and the rectangle tool.  I then watched the tutorial with the chairs and began to re-create them.

Stunning

For my last seed packet, my idea was stunning.  I started out with the diamond earrings originally with a round top part and a tear drop shaped bottom.  I feel I was very successful with the bottom part of the earring, but when I was working on the round diamond I felt like it lacked the depth of the bottom one, so I chose to reflect the bottom one up top as well.  I also changed the hair on girl from black with tones of purple to brunette because I was having trouble getting the typeface color to stand out.

Sheik

The next packet I did was sheik. My first design(pictured at top) felt a little flat and "cartoonish" compared with the bold lips I ended up with for my last packet.  I decided to change the shape of the eye to make it look more in-depth and feminine. I also changed the make up colors quite a bit and got rid of the eyelashes.  I decided to use a thick line of mascara instead.  The typeface for the word "sheik" was also changed in order to match the typeface between all of my packets

Edited design

For the Bold seed packet, this is the final design that I arrived at.  I made many, many changes to it including fuller, brighter lips that suggest a glamorous pucker, smaller whiter lights around the title, A completely different typeface for the word "bold" that does not have an outline, and a more detailed background.

First design

This was my first design that I began working with.  My concept was grow your own bold.  The other packets in the series were grow your own sheik and grow your own stunning.  These were things that I thought about when I heard the word glamour.

sketch

I know that I'm just now posting all of the work that I did on my project instead of posting all the way through. I was having a lot of internet trouble. I took the time to document much of my work as screen shots and am uploading them now.

This is the sketch that I based almost all of my facial design off of.  It also happens to be katy perry's face.

Mood Board

For the mood board I decided on the idea of glamor.  I used the colors blue pink and purple in the design.  With the general idea of glamor I decided to break the concept down into three different glamorous looks, Bold, Sheik, and Stunning.

Mind Map

For the mind map I focused a lot on bright colors.  Thinking about the bright colors led me to think about  many everyday things that are brightly colored such as liquids, makeup, and feathers.  I liked the makeup idea the best and decided to go with that.

homework

For this homework assignment I re-created several logos.  I used a combination of the pen tool, shape tools, the knife tool, and fills to create the designs.

For my circles assignment, I used a lot of symmetrical balance in my composition.  I made use of negative space by surrounding an area with black circles to make it look like there was a white circle.  When I was finished my assignment it reminded me of a galaxy.

Homework

I watched both of the videos for homework. I found the first one fairly interesting because it talked about the possibility of purchasing a large monitor for at home and connecting a laptop for a larger work screen.  I don't think that I would purchase a desktop in the near future but I would consider just buying the monitor for a larger work space.  The second video was helpful for general instruction.  I was already familiar with most of the controls talked about, but I thought it was still a good reference.
